Support World AIDS Day

Be safe. Educate yourselves. Support your local HIV/AIDS programs and efforts.

As some of you know, I work closely with volunteers. I recently started volunteering myself with a local HIV/AIDS program. I have seen firsthand what a difference it's making in these families' lives, and it's nothing short of amazing.

My volunteer experience has caused me to (naturally) become more aware of issues surrounding HIV/AIDS, and I've realized that people don't talk about AIDS as much as they did 10 years ago. After Magic Johnson, it kind of fell out of the news.

The problem didn't go away. Recently, with the help of things like (product)RED (and yes, I have one of those super-de-dooper cool shirts!) and the high profile campaign that Oprah and Bono started with RED, awareness has been raised to the AIDS epidemic in Africa. I think people are forgetting that it's still here in the US, too. (if you want to buy one, you may click here.)

Do something. Take a stand. Get involved.

Happy Friday!

I'm so glad you posted this. You are right, it *has* fallen out of the news. People often see it as 'it's *their* problem (referring to Africa),' when in fact it's everyone's. We haven't even begun to curb the disease - I understand it's on the rise and dramatically fast - and that's HERE in the US. Thank you for the links.

I actually jumped on the bandwagon with the Aldo AIDS campaign. I've bought more of their necklace things than I know what to do with. On a positive note...soooo much of the money goes right to the cause you just can't go wrong.
